25.11.11-11-25/ Annaberg/ The whole town is once again a Christmas mountain for visitors from near and far. The start of the Annaberg Christmas market begins with the traditional Living Market Pyramid spectacle. Symbolically, all 18 figures descend from the pyramid and introduce themselves to visitors as part of the spectacle. The Miners' Advent on December 4, the big mountain parade on December 18, as well as mountain concerts and Mettenschichten, the Annaberg Mountain Altar and four visitor mines get locals and many guests in the mood for the most beautiful days of the year in the Ore Mountains. At the foot of the Pöhlberg, around the famous Annenkirche church in Annaberg-Buchholz, a huge sea of lights, candle arches and light bearers, pyramids and Christmas trees light up again for four weeks.Photo: Wolfgang Schmidt aktuell-sachsen@t-online.de

Experience the special flair of the Christmas season.

Hardly any other region in Saxony is as famous for its Christmas rituals as the Erzgebirge with its unique tradition of wooden art and toy making.

You can look over the shoulders of master craftsmen at work in a number of workshops that have been preserved to this day and experience traditional craftsmanship up close: hoop turning in a Seiffen toymaker's workshop, lace-making in an Annaberg parlor, the production of smoked candles with the popular Christmas scents and the baking of Erzgebirge Christmas stollen.

Particularly moving are the mining parades and processions as well as Metten shifts in the strongholds of the former silver mining industry. The traditions and customs in the Ore Mountains are many centuries old and are an integral part of Saxony's culture.
