description: "The Spitzhaus Staircase is one of the most famous landmarks of the Radebeul wine region. It connects the Hoflößnitz with the Spitzhaus, which stands high above the vineyards. The first staircase was built between 1747 and 1750 and was given a grand upper terminus in the form of the Muschelpavillon. In 1845–46, Master Architect Carl Moritz Haenel had the staircase rebuilt. Since then, it has comprised 397 steps instead of the originally planned 365 and is therefore also known as the “Year Staircase.” The ascent leads right through the historic vineyard landscape of the Lößnitz and offers impressive views of the Elbe Valley, the town of Radebeul, and Dresden. Since 2001, the staircase has also been the venue for the International Spitzhaus Stair Run, making it a popular attraction for day-trippers, hikers, and sports enthusiasts."
