A moderately challenging route for forest and mountain lodge enthusiasts with Czorneboh and a charming detour into the Cunewalder Valley

Directions

For this circular route on Bautzen's local mountain Czorneboh, you need a car or someone to bring you to the starting point. Otherwise, bus line 110 connects Bautzen with Cunewalde to vary the route a bit. First, you walk to the ridge trail (blue dot), then continue over Döhlener Berg and past the so-called Devil's Window. If you hit a pine cone into the rock hole here, you may make a wish! At the summit of the Sorbian "Black God," you first climb the stone observation tower (1851) and then relax in the lodge with food and drink. The descent into the beautiful Cunewalder Valley is worthwhile, where besides Germany's largest village church, a half-timbered house architecture park attracts. You follow the Lower Schleifberg path to the forest edge, then a bit to the right towards Schönberg, simply orient yourself by the church tower, and once there, visit the Häusel Park. Refreshments are offered at the nearby "Kleene Schänke" in a charming half-timbered house. The way back through the Wolf's Gorge and along Schönberger Straße leads through the picturesque district, finally turning right into the hollow path to the sports field. After this, turn left again into the forest and go fairly straight ahead (always close to the road to Pielitz) to reach the parking lot again.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

At the Kleene Schänke inn, there is a small museum upstairs with all the tools that were once needed to hand-build a half-timbered house! There is also a beautiful collection from the Upper Lusatian mineral friends with stones, crystals, and fossils to admire!

The landlady is usually at the house from Thu-Sat - it's worth asking her about it!
