Thanks to the Kanupark lock, which compensates a height difference of four meters, water hikers can explore the first lake network in the Leipzig New Lake District. Water course 5 can be navigated with canoe or stand-up paddleboard.

Water hikers are rewarded with impressive views of the mining technology park, the floating cultural island VINETA, and the whitewater facility of the Kanupark Markkleeberg. Those who do not want to be active themselves can enjoy these views from the passenger ship.

Due to current construction work, the Störmthaler Canal and the Kanupark lock are closed. There is therefore no water connection between Markkleeberger and Störmthaler See, so portaging boats is necessary.
