Directions

**The village Nebelschütz/ Njebjelčicy forms the gateway to the Sorbian-speaking Upper Lusatia. The Wendentor stands as a symbol of this. It has been lovingly restored and decorates the village center of Nebelschütz. The name Nebelschütz – Sorbian Njebjelčicy – translates to "heavenly place".**

1. You start the route at the parking lot in front of the Nebelschütz community center. Ride uphill towards the church, follow the Krabat cycle path marking and now cycle on the roadside bike path through Wendischbaselitz. Here you can make your first stop at the **carver, Mr. Selnak**. Continue straight ahead across the roundabout to Schmeckwitz. At the roundabout, however, the Krabat cycle path turns right. After entering the village, turn immediately left and cycle along Weinbergstraße. Before you reach the main road again, the **Sperling pottery workshop** awaits your visit. You can watch the ceramic artist at work.

     01920 Räckelwitz, OT Schmeckwitz
     Tel. 035796-96366 or 0172-7907581
2. On the main road, cycle right and at the intersection turn left towards Räckelwitz. In the village, you can take a break and explore the chapel, built in the Beuron style, or relax by the village pond with an island. A small refreshment is available at the Schlappa bakery.
Further information is available at .
3. From the guesthouse, cycle about 650 m further and turn right onto Wiesenweg, where you can get assistance in case of a breakdown at the bicycle garage. At Wiesenweg 7, you will find **costume tailor Petra Kupke**. She will gladly explain how Sorbian costumes are sewn and richly embroidered ribbons and scarves for Sorbian costumes and Easter rider horses are produced. Costume dolls in traditionally recreated costumes are offered as souvenirs.

4. From here, continue cycling on the path and reach the district Neudörfel. Here the **sculptor Dyrlich** is at home and looks forward to your visit. Then cycle right onto Horkaer Straße. Keep to the right and turn right at the next intersection, cycling to Leopoldschänke. Again, at the next intersection turn right, cycling on Neschwitzer Straße back towards Räckelwitz. At the next junction, turn left onto a field path and follow the markings Krabat cycle path and Sorbian Impressions. Leaving Caseritz to the right, you reach, passing the **memorial for fallen war victims**, Crostwitz, a Sorbian Catholic central village. The beautiful **parish church** invites you to reflection.
5. Now continue following the markings Saxon City Route, KRABAT cycle path and Sorbian Impressions over Alte Ziegelscheune to Panschwitz-Kuckau. Passing the Kuckauer Schanze, you enter the village center. Here, a visit to the **Cistercian Abbey St. Marienstern** is worthwhile. It is the only monastery still serving its original purpose today. Visit the herb and teaching garden and the treasury. The monastery church invites you to linger and reflect. There is also a café, publicly accessible toilets and a very worthwhile monastery shop in the ensemble.
Further information can be found at and at .
6. Back on the main road, continue on the KRABAT cycle path. Passing the sports field, cycle straight ahead to Dürrwicknitz. Here awaits you the **Pottery farm Wěteńca**. On the traditional Sorbian three-sided farm, children find original swings, play equipment, and petting animals. Visitors can watch the potter at work and enjoy coffee and cake in the historic Sorbian tavern and guesthouse.

7. After a creative break, you leave Dürrwicknitz and continue cycling on the KRABAT cycle path to the starting point of the route, Nebelschütz. After visiting the **St. Martin parish church**, you can watch the decorating of Sorbian Easter eggs and refresh yourself again at the oven (both by prior reservation).
