Circular tour on the topic of industrial culture to special places in the former Lugau-Oelsnitz coal mining area. Along the way, information boards provide details about the sites.

Start at the Mining Museum. First head towards Lugau into the former eastern field of the Lugau-Oelsnitz coal mining area, passing tradition points of the largest shafts that existed there at the time. With a nice view of Oelsnitz, you go downhill to Niederoelsnitz into the valley of the Hegebach. Here we follow the former route of the interurban tramway that connected Hohenstein-Ernstthal with Oelsnitz. From afar, a street art facade shows us the way to the settlement "De Cord", as the Concordia settlement is colloquially called. It goes back to the Concordia shafts sunk there; remains of above-ground facilities are still visible. After crossing the "Oelsnitzer Equator" and partially circling a mining dump, we arrive at a former miners' settlement with modernized houses. The small sculpture "Bergmannskuh" (miner’s cow) commemorates this time. After again crossing the Hegebach valley, we reach the mining museum along a slowly ascending path named "Seilbahn" after the coal transport system formerly operated here. Directions

From the parking lot of the Mining Museum, walk east along Pflockenstraße towards Lugau. To the right, parallel to this street, was the first railway connection to the coal mining area. In this area, the first larger coal mining companies were also founded. Before the residential area begins, turn left into Heinrich-Heine-Straße. At the end of this street, turn left into Gottes-Segen-Schacht-Straße. Now follow this street until you reach the end, then bear right onto Zechenstraße. Follow this street to the left, at the end briefly right and then left into Fundgrubenweg. Here you pass old shaft grounds with the typical sequence structure; numerous tradition points with information boards on skips testify to and inform about these sites. Here were the largest shafts of the eastern part of the mining area. At the location of the former Vertrauenschacht, the mining disaster of 1867 is commemorated. From this tradition point, you can already see the Concordia settlement, colloquially called "De Cord" in Oelsnitz, our next destination. Follow Fundgrubenweg down into the valley to Oelsnitzer Straße. Here turn right about 150m to house no. 28, then left down a small path, then continue left on a path that runs along the former route of an interurban tramway that led from Hohenstein-Ernstthal into the mining area. At the end of this path, turn right into Concordiastraße. Here on the left you again see the residential settlement "De Cord" with a new large-scale street art object and to the right, remnants of above-ground facilities, mostly converted into residential use. One of the originally two existing headframes there has been converted into a residential building. Turn left onto Badstraße, crossing the "Oelsnitzer Equator" and immediately next to it, turn right up to a large school building. However, turn left and cross the street on a stone bridge. Follow this footpath to a dump. On a meadow path to the left, circle this dump clockwise and go straight ahead via Obere Windberggasse into Robert-Schumann-Straße. You are now in the middle of a mining settlement with modernized houses. The small sculpture "Bergmannskuh" shows you the way left into Franz-Schubert-Straße. Continue straight downhill on Lerchenweg to the junction with Mühlweg. Here bear sharply left following Mühlweg to the junction with Untere Hauptstraße. Directly opposite, a small street begins, Nansenstraße. Follow it uphill and cross Lugauer Straße onto a path called "Seilbahn". Always uphill, you reach the end of the path at Turleyring and thus the area of the former largest shaft of the mining area at the school. You can then turn left after the Förderzentrum and walk right through the original shaft area. You get an impression of the different current uses of the facilities and arrive keeping right at the parking lot of the Mining Museum, the starting point of the tour.

Now a visit to the museum is recommended, which also includes viewing Saxony's largest operational steam hoisting engine.

Please note that from 2019 the museum is being extensively renovated and modernized and may be closed during construction work. Information at www.bergbaumuseum-oelsnitz.de
