The approximately 24 km long, marked hiking trail connects those places that were removed by the former GDR as part of the border security measures after World War II.

It leads from the fortified church in Triebel via Hammerleithen (part of present-day Pabstleithen) to the tri-border point Saxony-Bavaria-Bohemia. Following the distinctive trail marker "WSO," we reach the former settlement Hasenreuth on the so-called "Green Belt." Near Loddenreuth, the path leads into the former village of Troschenreuth. Past the former border company, the path arrives at the top of the ridge at Ebersberg—a small settlement that also fell victim to the border security measures. The trail ends at the Wiedersberg castle ruins.

Along the trail, information boards provide extensive details about the "disappeared" places.

Directions

In front of the WSO orientation board, the path begins to the right along the cemetery wall. Behind the houses at Ziegenberg, descend to the right. Cross the main road and continue on Kugelangerweg. From here, the route runs together with the Jakobsweg. After a few kilometers through the forest, you cross the Erzgebirge-Vogtland ridgeway. Via Kugelreuther Straße you reach the village of Wieden. In Mittelhammer, keep right to take the shortest route to the tri-border point Saxony-Bavaria-Czech Republic.

Now go back a bit to Wieden. Behind the Bavarian-Saxon border, follow the former patrol road towards Posseck. You pass the village to the west and cross the state road between Oelsnitz and Hof near the memorial stone for the border opening in 1989. After a few kilometers, you pass through the Fuchspöhl nature reserve. Here—near the village of Loddenreuth—you turn left onto the ridgeway. After about 1 km, turn right towards Wiedersberg. After 500 m you reach the county road, turn right again and walk past the Wiedersberg forebay. Shortly thereafter, turn sharply left to reach the former village of Troschenreuth at the Feilebach.

Before reaching the destination Wiedersberg, you can make a detour to the former settlement of Ebersbach.
