description: "After the confluence of the two Mulde arms, the United Mulde crosses the Leipzig lowlands, which are mainly characterized by small forests and extensive fields. In contrast, Grimma stands out with historic buildings from various eras along with the 2012 reconstructed Pöppelmann Bridge. Shortly before Wurzen, you have the choice to cross to the other bank by ferry or to prefer the bridge. Beyond Wurzen, the route no longer runs directly along the Mulde but compensates with views over endless floodplains. In the adjacent bird protection areas, especially in spring and summer, over 30 sometimes very rare native bird species like the white stork or kingfisher can be observed before reaching Eilenburg with its impressive Mühlinsel. Even after Eilenburg, mainly fairy-tale floodplain landscapes are crossed, which constantly change. The Dübener Heath with its species-rich flora and fauna including the spa town Bad Düben is the destination of this stage. Here you can wonderfully relax in the worthwhile spa center. After Bad Düben, the path leads along the Mulde to the Great Goitzschesee and the adjoining Pouch peninsula. To the right of the peninsula lies the Muldestausee. In earlier times, brown coal was mined here, before the resulting basin was flooded and is now designated as a nature reserve. Over the dam, the path continues into the Saxony-Anhalt town of Bitterfeld-Wolfen. The last stage of the United Mulde awaits. Just under thirty flat kilometers lie ahead along the \"Lower Mulde\" until the Bauhaus city with UNESCO World Heritage status Dessau-Roßlau is passed and shortly thereafter the Hunting Bridge over the Mulde is reached, which simultaneously marks the end point of the route. www.mulderadweg.de"

We start in Sermuth and follow the Mulde, past beautiful Mulde meadows, along old railway tracks, through the former Bitterfeld mining area to the Bauhaus city of Dessau.

After the confluence of the two Mulde arms, the United Mulde crosses the Leipzig lowlands, which are mainly characterized by small forests and extensive fields.

Just under thirty flat kilometers lie ahead along the "Lower Mulde" until the Bauhaus city with UNESCO World Heritage status Dessau-Roßlau is passed and shortly thereafter the Hunting Bridge over the Mulde is reached, which simultaneously marks the end point of the route.

Directions

The starting point of the route is Sermuth, where the Zwickauer and Freiberger Mulde merge to form the United Mulde. Via Kössern, it goes past the Nimbschen Monastery to Grimma. Here the United Mulde is crossed, and the cycle path continues along the opposite bank. Passing the small towns of Trebsen, Wurzen, and Eilenburg, the route continues to the spa town of Bad Düben. On the last section of the Saxon Mulde cycle path, the route leads along the Mulde dam, past Löbnitz, across the Saxony-Anhalt state border, Great Goitzschesee / Muldestausee to Bitterfeld-Wolfen. The destination is then reached in Dessau-Roßlau.
