In around 90 minutes, the planetary hiking trail leads through our solar system as a long-distance hike (not a circular trail) and impressively conveys the dimensions of our cosmic home.

The section between Ehrenfriedersdorf and Drebach clearly shows sizes and distances on a scale of 1 : 1 billion:

The sun appears as a sphere with a diameter of 1.40 m, while the dwarf planet Pluto is only 0.3 cm in diameter. All the planets are positioned true to scale and convey a realistic picture of the vastness of space.

The varied route opens up wide views of the Greifenstein region and the ridge of the Ore Mountains. You can start at the sun in Ehrenfriedersdorf or at Pluto at the Zeiss Planetarium in Drebach.

Directions

The planetary hiking trail connects Ehrenfriedersdorf with Drebach. The 6 km route is marked by signposts. This is a long-distance hike, which can be started either at the sun in Ehrenfriedersdorf or at Pluto at the Zeiss Planetarium in Drebach.A well-developed hiking trail connects the individual planetary stations. The planets are depicted as three-dimensional models on sturdy granite bases. Information boards provide important facts, while photos give vivid insights into the nature of the celestial bodies. In addition, the distances to the sun, the neighboring planet and Pluto are indicated at each station, making it easier to plan the route, especially when hiking with children.

The route impresses with its attractive location with views of the former mining area on the Sauberg, the Greifenstein region and the ridge of the Ore Mountains. Along the way, benches and a refuge invite you to take a relaxing break.
