The history of the Vogtland is presented in the former houses of wealthy cotton merchants in a magnificent way.

Thewealthof their formermastersisstill inherent:Three buildings of formercotton merchants of Plauenfrom the late 18thcentury,now housethe Museum of the Vogtland.Theformerpatrician houses,whichare among themost remarkableearly classicalarchitectural monumentsof Central Germany,enclosetwo courtyardsand brings thehistory of the Vogtlandto life.Founded in 1923,the museum housesextensive collectionsof the historicalandcultural development of thecity of Plauenandthe Vogtland-textiles, handicrafts,historical weapons and paintings.In addition to thepermanent exhibition, theMuseum of the Vogtland in Plauenpresents severalspecial exhibitions every year. Of particular interest isthe ballroom of themiddlehouse, whichis decorated in theFrenchLouisXVI styleandinvitestonumerous events.
