The Albertinum, part of the Dresden State Art Collections, is presenting “The Great Drama: Auguste Rodin and the Debate over Modernism,” running from October 31, 2026, to August 22, 2027, the Albertinum is showcasing its exceptional collection of French and Belgian sculpture from around 1900 for the first time in decades. Some 70 sculptures, including major works by Auguste Rodin, tell the story of the dawn of modernism and the controversial debates sparked by new forms of artistic expression.
The exhibition highlights the visionary collecting activities of the museum’s then-director, Georg Treu, and shows how social upheavals, human destinies, and the world of work found their way into art. Many of the works are on public view for the first time since 1939.
