Freital Castle Advent

Every year on the first and second weekends of Advent, Burgk Castle hosts the “Freital Castle Advent.” In a tranquil setting, far from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, the castle courtyard and gardens are aglow with festive lights. In festively decorated wooden huts, vendors and artisans offer their culinary and Christmas goods. The Christmas market has plenty to offer: mulled wine, waffles, sugar rolls, gingerbread, almonds, burgers, bratwurst, langos, vegan/vegetarian dishes, and many other treats.

There’s plenty for kids to enjoy with free activities in the castle garden, including the “Orient Express” children’s train, knightly games featuring archery, crossbow shooting, and knighting ceremonies, as well as small craft activities in the knight’s tent. A demonstration blacksmith’s shop awaits all visitors in the castle courtyard. On all four days, starting at 2:00 p.m., Santa Claus, stilt walkers in fascinating costumes, and the snowman will visit the market, always bringing little surprises with them.
