Particularly worth seeing are the romantic Polenz Valley, the Schindergraben, and the Brandaussicht, which is also known as the “Balcony of Saxon Switzerland.” In spring, the snowdrop meadows in the Polenz Valley are a special natural experience. 
The famous Bastei and Bastei Bridge can also be excellently discovered from Hohnstein. An official hiking route even leads directly from Hohnstein over the Brandaussicht and Rathen to the Bastei.
Hohnstein is also located on the well-known Painter's Way and is therefore an ideal starting point for hiking vacationers. Other popular excursion destinations in Saxon Switzerland, such as Rathen, Königstein, Lilienstein, and the Schrammsteine, can be easily explored from here.
For refreshment, there are, among others, the Restaurant and Café Burg-Terrasse Hohnstein and Meschkes Gasthaus in the town. For hikes into the Polenz Valley, the Pension and Gaststätte Polenztal is also a well-known stopping point. Directly at the market is the Proviantomat Hohnstein for smaller purchases.
