Platte, Gründerzeit und Co - Das Kolonnadenviertel im Wandel der Zeit
If you walk the old paths of the western suburb, the so-called "Colonnades Quarter", quotes line up next to each other, architectural reinterpretations stand alongside original buildings. Due to the large-scale destruction in World War II, the way for a redesign of the district was already paved in 1945. However, it wasn't until 1982 that the transformation of the quarter took shape. In the urban space, an ambitious housing construction program of the GDR can be seen, which is still diversified in use and liveliness today. The quarter around Colonnades Street, with its mix of old and experimental panel new buildings, has long since developed into a lively scene district and is a favorite not only among artists and creatives, thanks to its cafés, restaurants, and pubs. We embark on an architectural stroll through the last centuries, exploring the special collage character that we know from old European cities and immerse ourselves in the typical flair of the "Kolle", which is unparalleled in Leipzig.
