In the 12th century, nuns and monks of the Cistercian order planted monastery gardens for their own needs and cultivated fruit trees, vegetables and medicinal plants. Today you can still trace the history in the monasteries of Sornzig, Buch and Nimbschen. 
In the fruit country -  between Grimma, Leisnig and Mügeln - there are also many stately castles, magnificent palaces and picturesque manor houses to tempt you.
