Augustusburg Castle
They are called the Three Worth Seeing. These are Lichtenwalde Castle, Scharfenstein Castle and Augustusburg Castle, which rise on a porphyry cone overlooking the Zschopau valley and are visible from afar.Augustusburg Castle has lost none of its imposing stature in 400 years. It owes its name to the Saxon Elector Augustus, who had the Renaissance-style hunting lodge built to demonstrate his dominance on the southern edge of his domain.
Augustusburg has been home to various top-class collections since the 1920s. The motorcycle museum has also earned the castle the nickname "biker's castle". In addition to the beautiful approach via steep serpentine roads, this is perhaps another reason why Augustusburg Castle is a worthwhile destination for two-wheeler enthusiasts, especially in the summer months. The carriage museum, the hunting animal and ornithological museum and the castle dungeon are also worth a visit.
In May 2026, the immersive experience "The Secret Laboratory" at Augustusburg Castle in Orlando, Florida, won the prestigious THEA Award.
What makes this project so special? It combines historical content with modern knowledge transfer and entertainment to create an immersive experience format that appeals to all the senses. In two 360-degree shows, guests immerse themselves in the 16th century, solve tasks and discover the history of Augustusburg Castle in a playful way.
"Elixir of Life" follows in the footsteps of Electress Anna: collecting medicinal herbs, deciphering old writings, distilling elixirs - all with historical tools and in an authentic atmosphere.
"Treasure of the Earth", on the other hand, reveals where Saxony's wealth came from. Under the guidance of Elector Augustus and the scholar Georgius Agricola, guests examine rock samples, determine the silver content and observe the smelting and casting process up close.
