Käthe Kollwitz House Moritzburg

The painter, sculptor and graphic artist Käthe Kollwitz is one of the most important German artists of the 20th century. Following an invitation from Prince Ernst Heinrich of Saxony, Käthe Kollwitz moved into two small rooms in the so-called Rüdenhof in August 1944. The baroque manor house on the castle pond in Moritzburg was Käthe Kollwitz' last residence and later death house. In her honor, a museum was established in the house in 1995, which preserves the artistic legacy of Käthe Kollwitz. No other place conveys such a vivid picture of the artist's life and work. The graphic collection of around 30 originals contains works from more than 50 years of her artistic career. In addition, photographs and excerpts from diary entries and letters give visitors the opportunity to get to know this important artist even better. It is also still possible to visit the rooms she lived in. In addition to the permanent exhibition, there are also regular special exhibitions.
