Leiko Ikemura - Usagi Greeting (180)

Leiko Ikemura, born in Japan in 1951 and now living in Berlin, is one of today's internationally renowned artists. Her bronze sculpture Usagi Greeting combines the figure of the hare with echoes of Buddhist bodhisattvas and Christian Madonnas. Two identical faces, praying arms and a bell-shaped body stand for protection and silent presence. Inside, a light-flooded room opens up - a miniature heaven. In the courtyard of Lichtenwalde Castle, Ikemura's work complements the Asian collection and expands the view beyond Europe into the spiritual worlds of East Asia.
