Leipzig Zoo – On the Trail of Animals in the Urban Jungle
Leipzig Zoo has been undergoing continuous development since 2000 as part of the “Zoo of the Future” master plan. This plan combines the expansion of animal enclosures and visitor areas with educational programs and a commitment to breeding, reintroduction, species conservation, and nature conservation projects.
Six unique themed areas allow visitors to immerse themselves in the most fascinating habitats on Earth. Highlights include the tropical experience world Gondwanaland, with its tropical rainforest, and Pongoland, where all four species of great apes can be observed. The modernized terrarium showcases reptiles and amphibians. This tour connects to the aquarium and explores the evolution of life from water to land.
The walk-through bird exhibits “Amazonien” and “Loriversum,” set to open in spring 2026, offer fascinating, up-close insights into the extraordinary birdlife of Asia and South America. Since September 1, 2026, the spectacular “Tierra del Fuego” aquatic world, featuring Humboldt penguins and sea lions, has further enhanced the offerings at Zoo Leipzig. An underwater tunnel more than 100 meters long leads through the tanks, providing impressive views of the facility’s underwater areas.
On-site and at the Arche Discovery Center, Zoo Leipzig provides information about endangered species, their habitats, and species conservation projects. It participates in breeding programs for endangered species and supports selected species and nature conservation projects in Germany and internationally. These include, among others, projects for endangered primates in Vietnam, field hamsters in central Germany, as well as initiatives in Chile and on Borneo. As part of selected reintroduction projects, Leipzig Zoo provides animals from conservation breeding programs, including European wildcats, little owls, eagle owls, Przewalski’s horses, and sable antelopes.

The children’s rate applies to children ages 6 through 16.
The family ticket is valid for two adults and up to four children ages 6 to 16. Each additional child pays 50% of the price of a child’s day ticket.
Children under 6,
people with severe disabilities accompanied by a caregiver (ID card marked with “B” or “H”),
visitors to the Zoo School within the jurisdiction of the Leipzig Regional Office, and
holders of the City of Leipzig Vacation Pass receive free admission.
The prices listed apply to tickets purchased at the box office and include a voluntary 1-euro contribution toward species conservation. Additional pricing information can be found on the Leipzig Zoo website.Information on reduced prices: LEIPZIG CARD/LEIPZIG REGIO CARD users receive a 15% discount on the admission price. In addition, there is a 10% discount on the total bill in the Kiwara Lodge, the Palmensaal restaurant and the Patakan restaurant in Gondwanaland. The barbecue stand, the bamboo bar and the Africa hut (in front of Kiwara Lodge) are excluded in summer. Pupils and vocational students, students, trainees, people with a disabled pass and BFD and FÖJ volunteers receive reduced admission.General information

- Playgrounds for young and old: the highlight is the Bärenburg playground with its three-headed dragon. At the Amazonas playground at the Hacienda Las Casas, the little ones can romp around on a mysterious Amazon steamer. And in Pongoland, skill and balance are required in the monkey climbing school.
- Discover the zoo through play: Whether feeling animal skins, guessing plant scents or feeling objects from the rainforest - at many interactive stations, young and old learn about nature and its inhabitants through play. Throughout the tour, learning stations offer a variety of discoveries and exciting insights.

- Well-being gastronomy for families: the Palmensaal restaurant, the Patakan restaurant, the Kiwara Lodge and the Hacienda Las Casas are all geared towards children's wishes with special snacks, menus and play corners. Here you ll also find highchairs, baby changing facilities and clothes hooks at a height suitable for children.
Directions & Parking facilities
By public transport: The nearest stop is Leipzig, Zoo (streetcar line 12). Other stops in the immediate vicinity: Goerdelerring, Wilhelm-Liebknecht-Platz and Leipzig Hauptbahnhof. Paws on the ground indicate the quickest routes from the stops to Leipzig Zoo.
By car: Follow the traffic routing to the Zoo parking garage at Parthenstraße 8. Coming from the center and west, the parking garage is not directly accessible via Pfaffendorfer Straße. Please follow the signs on site. The parking garage is located directly opposite the Zoo main entrance. It is open around the clock and offers 1,375 parking spaces.Social Media
