Lichtenwalde Castle & Park

Lichtenwalde Palace and Park form one of the most remarkable Baroque ensembles in Germany. A minister of Augustus the Strong had the three-winged complex built from 1722-1726 and his son later laid out the park. In 1772, the country estate passed to the Counts von Vitzthum von Eckstädt, who lived there until 1945. Today, the treasury museum on three floors tells of foreign and past cultures. Art and ritual objects from Nepal and Tibet, porcelain, lacquer work, furniture and silk embroidery from China and Japan as well as burial objects and ghost masks from West Africa are not to be missed - as is one of the largest collections of silhouettes in Germany.

In the adjoining 10-hectare park, 100 water features are spread across the baroque garden, making Lichtenwalde Park one of the most beautiful park ensembles in Germany. Experience a symphony of rustling leaves, splashing fountains and the scent of flowers! Views deep into the valley with the dark, meandering Zschopau invite you to linger.
