In the oldest municipal theatre of the world in Freiberg the Central Saxon Theatre awaits its guests with an extensive municipal theatre programme. Symphony concerts of the Central Saxon Philharmonic Orchestra take place in the church Nikolaikirche directly opposite to the theatre. And in summer, there is the "Nikolaikirchen Festival", a fascinating theatre experience in unique atmosphere that is devoted alternately to works of the baroque period and the 20th century.
