Moritzburg Castle

Moritzburg Castle, located close to the cultural metropolis of Dresden, has enchanted its guests for centuries. Duke Moritz had the probably most beautiful moated castle in Saxony built as a hunting lodge in 1542. From 1723, Elector Augustus the Strong rebuilt the magnificent castle under the direction of Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann into a place of festivities. Today it houses one of the most important collections of hunting trophies in Europe, ornate gold leather wallpapers and the feather room. A room decorated with millions of coloured bird feathers, which has been awarded the “European Prize for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage. ” The four-towered Baroque jewel in the middle of a large pond and park invites you to dream. As a backdrop for one of the most famous fairy tale films  „Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel“,, the Silhouette enchants its visitors especially in winter. Important highlights are in addition to the nearby pheasant castle, unique events such as the large stallion parade, which recalls the breeding tradition in the Elector stables or the large fairy tale exhibition about the winter dream „Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel“.
