Valuable architecture at the foot of the Zittau Mountains
The heart of Europe pulsates in triple time. Zittau and the three-country region have an extraordinary cultural landscape, characterised by diversity and internationality. Its location at a centuries-old crossroads of European history makes the town and the region around the Zittau Mountains Nature Park a true cultural treasure - full of traces of traditional craftsmanship, legendary mountain villages and precious buildings, embedded in charming landscapes. And they all tell stories. You just have to listen carefully. Since the 19th century, the historic town centre of Zittau has been surrounded by a "green ring" with valuable trees and botanical treasures in place of the town wall. Valuable buildings such as the classicist town baths from 1873, the Fleischerbastei with the flower clock, the Baugewerkenschule, the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater or the Kreuzkirche and the Weberkirche characterise the ring development. The best view of the beauty of the city and the surrounding landscape in the border triangle is from the 60-metre-high observation tower of the Schinkel Church of St. Johannis in the heart of the city.
