14 eight-thousanders in the Eastern Ore Mountains

The starting point is the train station in Altenberg. The tour starts in the direction of Geisingberg (8238 dm). From there it goes downhill to Geising, on the main road you walk through the entire district. On the road towards Löwenhain, turn right onto Lindenallee to the Hüttenteich natural swimming pool. Walk past the Hüttenteich pond through the Erdbachtal valley, turn left towards Fürstenau and reach the Traugotthöhe (8066 dm). Hike back along the path, then turn left around the Kohlhaukuppe to Zinnwald. The Fuchshübel (8138 dm) is located directly on the path towards Zinnwald - the stamping point is not at the summit, but at the refuge below. The hike then leads through forests between Altenberg and Zinnwald to the Scharspitze (8072 dm) and over the Biwak-Kuppe (8285 dm) to Zinnwald-Georgenfeld. Next on the agenda are the two Lugsteine (Großer Lugstein 8992 dm & Kleiner Lugstein 8937 dm). From there you have a fantastic view of the Bohemian Basin. You continue past the Biathlon Sparkassen-Arena. The Wüste Höhe (8266 dm - also known as the "Unnamed Height") is "hidden" behind the arena. Continue in a westerly direction to Rehefeld and the Hemmschuh (8473 dm). Here you will find the stamping point next to the wooden hut at the ski lift. From Hemmschuh, continue along the Erzgebirge-Vogtland ridge trail to Schickelshöhe (8049 dm). Then return along the Erzgebirge-Vogtland ridge trail to the Steinkuppe (8048 dm). The 14 eight-thousander route continues to and through Holzhau to the Kannelberg (8054 dm, also known as Drachenkopf). It continues in the direction of Hermsdorf to the district of Schellerhau. The Stephanshöhe (8040 dm) is located here. You can easily reach this summit via the hiking trail that runs parallel to the village. Continue along the path above Schellerhau to the Pöbelknochen(8328 dm). You are now on the way back to Altenberg. Pass the gallows ponds and return to Altenberg railroad station, the starting point. You can collect your finisher T-shirt from the Altenberg Tourist Information Office on presentation of your completed stamp card and voucher.
