Adventure region Dresden bike route 2:

From Karswald around the Schöne Höhe to Saxony's beer city

Route length: 60 km

Profile: moderate, numerous short climbs

Starting point: Arnsdorf (Karswaldbad)

The Karswaldbad in Arnsdorf is suitable as a route starting point. From here, you cross the Karswald. The name of this forest area, crisscrossed by meadows and marshy areas, is said to go back to the Karras family, who managed the area in the mid-15th century. The route runs through Helmsdorf, where you can make a detour to Stolpen Castle along the way.

From Dürrröhrsdorf, you follow the former railway line to Wünschendorf, where you leave the railway line towards Dittersbach. At the entrance to the village, a visit to the Hubertus Chapel in the Lieblingstal is recommended. It was built in 1840 and painted after a print by Albrecht Dürer. Also worth seeing is the Belvedere Schöne Höhe. The small tower castle was built between 1831 and 1833 and is considered Germany's first memorial to Goethe. The fresco hall shows motifs from his poems, such as "Erlking" or "The King of Thule." In the village center, you can visit Dittersbach Church with its Silbermann organ from 1726, framed by Baroque wood carvings.

Further along, you pass through the Karswald and the Dresden Heath. Noticeable here are the red markings of the historic trail network that still exist today, consisting of symbolic signs and modified letters. Brushing Radeberg city, you reach Schönborn. Here lies the Seifersdorfer Tal landscape garden. The current nature reserve of the picturesque river valley of the Große Röder was landscaped into a park at the end of the 18th century. In the valley, behind the Marienmühle, there is a natural stage where concerts and performances take place on Pentecost Sunday and during the summer months. Via Seifersdorf with its castle and park, you reach Wachau, which is especially known for its Baroque castle. It was built between 1730 and 1754 on an artificially created island and is designed as a horseshoe-shaped complex with side wings and a high mansard roof.

The route now continues to Radeberg. You reach directly via Landwehrweg into Saxony's beer city. There you can visit the Radeberger Exportbier Brewery founded in 1872 or the stations of the beer city trail. Slightly off the beaten path lies the Botanical Garden for the Blind. From Klippenstein Castle, the starting point for the planet trail, the route leads over the hill-and-valley route, through the so-called Wallroda Alps, to Wallroda and back to Arnsdorf.
