A very special piece of nature awaits you just outside Dresden in Königsbrück. The regional train takes you in about 40 minutes from Dresden to an extraordinary area: the Königsbrücker Heide. The former military training area is now an important nature reserve and recreational area.
On this route, you will completely circle the Königsbrücker Heide. Along the way, you will encounter concrete witnesses of the Cold War: old bunkers, abandoned barracks, and an officers' casino. Nature has reclaimed the area, and now the only "hunters" are wild boars and wolves.
Countless beautiful lakes also await you. Take your time to explore the Königsbrücker Heide off the beaten path and discover beaver lodges, the Heideturm tower, and some relics of history.
