Easter is the biggest Christian festival. On Easter Sunday, the Easter riders set out in processions to proclaim the joyful news of Christ's resurrection.

The Easter riders start in Ralbitz around 9:15 am and ride in tailcoats and top hats on festively decorated horses to Wittichenau. Along the way, they ride through the Easter-decorated villages of Cunnewitz, Schönau, Sollschwitz, and Saalau and finally arrive in the town of Wittichenau around 12:15 pm. There they are served a strengthening lunch, after which the Easter riders set off back home around 3:00 pm. The return trip goes from Wittichenau via Hoske, Kotten, and Cunnewitz back to Ralbitz. Arrival is around 6:00 pm.

The procession of the partner municipality Wittichenau rides in the opposite direction. Their riders start at 9:20 am in Wittichenau, arrive in Ralbitz at 12:00 pm, and leave Ralbitz at 3:00 pm, riding back over Cunnewitz, Schönau, Sollschwitz, and Saalau, reaching the starting point in Wittichenau around 6:00 pm.

Safety guidelines

Dear visitor, dear guests

Please note that horses are living beings (flight animals). Behave calmly and keep your distance from the procession for your own safety to avoid accidents. As a sign of your respect for our tradition, it would be nice if you show restraint and silence when the Easter riders procession passes by.
