- Start: Oelsnitz train station
- Destination: Pirk
As an educational trail, it seeks to convey knowledge about landscape, geology, flora and fauna, culture and history. In the area of Oelsnitz, Pirk and Weischlitz, there were almost 20 mines in the 16th and 17th centuries, including copper and tin mines, fluorspar pits or diabase quarries. At the Huthaus - about half way through the hike - there is a beautiful viewpoint. This is where the miners gathered. The hut man was responsible for guarding the mine. There is also a direct connection between the Huthaus and Schönbrunn, so the route can be shortened here.
Unfortunately, some information signs are currently damaged or missing. A hike with an expert guide is recommended. For the return journey, it is advisable to take the Vogtlandbahn from Pirk back to Oelsnitz.

Directions
We start either at the Oelsnitz train station or at the Zoephelsches House (tourist information) and follow the signposting with the green crossbar for the educational and hiking trail. Over the new road bridge, we cross the White Elster and the railway. Now we walk uphill along the forest path, and at the end we turn right. Cross the main road, go uphill a few meters and turn right again immediately. Through a small forest area, we reach the Lauterbach basalt quarry, which we walk around. Keep right behind the sports field to reach the Huthaus.
Cross Lauterbacher street. Now we reach the Untertriebelbach area.
Arriving in Bösenbrunn, we come to the Brüder Einigkeit tunnel at the northern exit of the village. We follow the hiking trail eastwards to Schönbrunn (possibility to stop at the inn). Those who want to return on foot to Oelsnitz here turn right into the main street about 100 m after the village pond and thus get back onto the hiking trail in Lauterbach.
Otherwise, we hike north via Planschwitz, Magwitz and Türbel to Pirk. Here we can admire the motorway bridge over the White Elster and refresh ourselves in Judith's Brückenstübl before walking to the train station and returning to Oelsnitz.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author
As a conclusion or starting point, a visit to the mineral vault in Voigtsberg Castle is recommended. Oelsnitz was the seat of the mining authority until the mid-19th century.
