This hike bears the name of one of Germany's most successful winter athletes. Eric Frenzel, born in the Ore Mountains, is one of the most famous Nordic combined athletes of all time: multiple world champion, Olympic champion and five-time overall World Cup winner.
The short yet varied circular tour starts at the Oberwiesenthal toboggan slope and follows Vierenstraße out of the lively town center. Even here, there are wonderful views of the Schindelbach valley and the surrounding Ore Mountains landscape. The trail continues into the Erzgebirge forest and passes the Naturbaude Eschenhof. It then passes under the cables of the cable car into the Schönjungferngrund. This wild and romantic valley, criss-crossed by streams and rustic trails, impresses with its high biodiversity and near-natural vegetation.
The route continues to the famous ski jumps of Oberwiesenthal, where numerous international world stars have jumped in ski jumping competitions. The view of these facilities makes it clear why Oberwiesenthal is a center of winter sports.
From the ski jump area, the trail finally leads back to the town center. Here you will find more places to stop for refreshments and the valley station of the Fichtelberg cable car.
