Moderate route from Frohnauer Hammer in Annaberg-Buchholz via Tannenberg through the Zschopau valley to the spa park at Thermalbad Wiesenbad.

Very varied route for somewhat more ambitious hikers. From the historic hammer mill Frohnauer Hammer, featuring Germany's oldest smithing museum, the path leads past important sites of the Annaberg mining history as well as the scenic high plateau around the Sauwald and the Erzgebirge Nature Conservation Center. From Tannenberg, the Zschopau valley hiking trail leads downstream to the spa park of Thermalbad Wiesenbad.

For relaxation after the hike, a visit to the Miriquidi Spa in Thermalbad Wiesenbad is worthwhile.

The return trip to Annaberg-Buchholz can be made from Thermalbad Wiesenbad by Erzgebirgsbahn or by bus.

Hikers with good endurance can combine this route with the hike "From Annaberg-Buchholz to Thermalbad Wiesenbad in the Zschopau valley" to form a day hike and take the return path along the Pöhlbach valley.

Directions

From the starting point at the historic hammer mill, follow the European long-distance hiking path Eisenach-Budapest (red-white EB marking) along the foot of Schreckenberg by the S261 (Sehmatalstraße) for about 500 meters to the Markus-Röhling Weg junction. Turn left into Markus-Röhling Weg and continue to follow the EB uphill.

The path leads directly past the monument complex "Markus-Röhling shaft" with mountain smithy, headframe house, horse gin, and powder house (open Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm). The upper building complex of the Markus-Röhling mine, built between 1768 and 1785, offers an interesting insight into the mining history of the Annaberg district.

The EB continues north and after about 400 meters turns left towards the Erzgebirge Nature Conservation Center at Sauwald, which you reach after 1.3 km. The Nature Conservation Center is located in the middle of nature and is surrounded by many rare biotopes and habitats of endangered animals and plants.

From the Nature Conservation Center, continue to follow the EB towards Tannenberg, which you reach via Frohnauer Weg after 2 km. In Tannenberg, turn left onto the state road for about 60 meters and cross the Zschopau river at the manor. Now follow the Zschopau valley path (red-white marking) to the right along Dorfstraße downstream. The path leads you to Schönfeld, where you cross the B 95. Continue following the Zschopau valley path towards Wiesa and Thermalbad Wiesenbad.

Shortly before your day's goal, the Bismarck Tower in Thermalbad Wiesenbad invites you to take a break. From the tower, you have a beautiful view into the narrow and steep-walled Zschopau valley.
