Directions
- From the parking lot, the route initially follows the European long-distance hiking trail E3 (blue) around half of the dam to the bridge over the Kleine Bockau called "Hänelwehr" (alternatively also possible over the dam wall and the other side of the dam; 0.6 km longer). Shortly afterward, a steady climb of about 2.5 km begins on the right via the Großer Stern and 330 meters in altitude to the summit of Auersberg. The magnificent view back to the dam is worth the effort. Downhill (now marked in red) via the Kleiner Stern, about 4 km after Auersberg, the Riesenberger Häuser and soon also the Rote Grube (5.6 km from Auersberg) are reached. From the crossroads at Eselsberger Flügel (end of red marking), the route leads about 2.3 km downhill again 200 meters to Sosa, where a sharp bend to the left leads into Riesenberger Straße, and after 400 m uphill, turn right onto a section of the Köhler educational trail with magnificent panoramic views of the charcoal-burning community, returning to the parking lot at the dam.
