Hiking from Neukirch via Steinigtwolmsdorf and Sohland to the Kälbersteine

At Neukirch/East train station, the “Green Dot” marking leads us to the “Waldhaus” guesthouse. At the “Waldhaus” we cross Hohwaldstraße and follow the signpost to the “Nordkap”. The “Yellow Line” marking then leads us eastwards partly along a small stream along the German-Czech border to the border crossing to Severni (Hilgersdorf). Shortly before this we reach the “Blue Line” marking – the Upper Lusatian Mountain Trail or the border hiking trail “In the footsteps of the red wood ant”. Following this marking, we arrive at the Dreiherrenstein from 1750. Here we leave the Upper Lusatian Mountain Trail or the border hiking trail and continue on the marked “Yellow Dot” trail to the Prinz-Friedrich-August cabin. At the cabin is also the 9th station (Pluto) of the planet trail. We hike this path “backwards” to the sun at the Sohland observatory. From the observatory, the further path leads into the center of Sohland above the market square. From this area, it goes right into Bahnhofstraße and immediately right again into Straße am Friedenshain. We go under the railway viaduct and turn left onto Himmelsbrückenweg. This leads to the landmark of the Sohland municipality. The stone Himmelsbrücke from 1796 arches today over the village stream. Our hiking proposal bypasses it and leads via the path An der Aue directly to the reservoir. At the reservoir, we have reached the foot of the Kälbersteine. From here the marked path (yellow sign with Kälbersteine logo) leads to the Kälbersteine. For descent, we recommend the path to Sohland train station past the reservoir or to Schirgiswalde-Kirschau train station past the Schirgiswalde gondola pond.
