Scenic hike through the mining landscape of Pöhlberg

You will climb high on our 832m high local mountain, situated in the midst of the UNESCO World Heritage Montanregion Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří.

On the eastern side of Pöhlberg, located in a rural cultivated area, there is a mining district documented since the 15th century. After the introduction of the Saiger process, silver could be extracted from the copper ore mined here at the Grüntal Saigerhütte. Let yourself be enchanted by the nature, landscape, and views that the Pöhlberg area offers you.

Directions

From Kätplatz, cross the B95 and follow the Pöhlberg access road (Ernst-Roch-Straße). Passing the Flößgraben, you reach the distinctive basalt columns below the summit. Keep to the right and follow the circular route around Pöhlberg. You pass the Pöhlbergalm natural monument and overlook the Ore Mountains ridge from Bärenstein over Fichtel- and Keilberg to Auersberg far west. Later, the path leads past the oldest mining district of Annaberg. The St. Briccius Stolln with its headframe is worth a detour. Following the circular route again, you pass the Töpferstolln and the Butterfässer back to Ernst-Roch-Straße and walk downhill to the starting point Kätplatz.

The hike is marked with hammer and pick on a blue background.
