Mining Tour Oelsnitz/Erzgebirge

The start is at information pillar No. 1 “Mining Museum” to the right of the museum entrance. During the circular route, you will encounter a total of 18 such pillars. Now also follow the white/green hiking signposts “Green Hiker with staff”. Near pillar No. 8 “Drilling” you have the possibility to extend the circular route via a direct access to the former state garden show area, the present citizen and family park, and to visit the graduation tower there. To do this, take a small path to the right of the bridge (through a gate that is always open) upwards into the park area. Keeping right, you reach a railing-separated viewing platform above the caravan parking space, where there is also an overview map of the entire area. Later, you use the same path again as an exit and continue the circular route at pillar No. 8. At pillar No. 10 “Deutschlandschacht” you have the possibility to shorten the tour and bypass the forest and the somewhat more strenuous but very attractive slag heap crossing and tower climb (stairs). To do this, follow Deutschlandschachtstraße through the former shaft area and after a short time come back to the circular route. This is marked as “short way” and then leads directly to pillar No. 13 “Christ Church”. But you can also continue the longer way through the forest and only at pillar No. 12 “Slag Heap” decide against the slag heap crossing and again choose a “short way” along Friedhofstraße directly to pillar No. 13 “Christ Church”. However, keep in mind that the ascent of the slag heap is rewarded with a panoramic view from the “Glückauf Tower”, you will pass various planted vegetation types and will be surprised, for example, by cacti and a “Wonder Horn”! At pillar No. 16 “Manor” you can shorten the tour once again by following the “Inner Neuwieser Street” further out of town (“short way”). However, pillar No. 17 is attractive due to the surrounding half-timbered structure. Further on our tour, you can already see from a distance the more than 17 meters high steel artwork “Zeitstrudel” (Time Vortex). This impressively symbolizes the ground subsidence due to coal mining. Following the path marking, we approach our starting point again. A visit to the mining museum is only possible again after the end of reconstruction measures (2023).
