Mining tour Oelsnitz/Erzgebirge

Start at information pillar no. 1 "Mining Museum" to the right of the museum entrance. During the circular route you will come across a total of 18 such stelae. Now also follow the white/green hiking signs "Green hiker with staff". Near stele no. 8 "Borehole", you have the option of extending the circular route via a direct access to the former state horticultural show grounds, today's citizens' and family park, and also to visit the graduation house there. To do this, take a small path to the right of the bridge (through a gate that is always open) up into the park grounds. Keeping to the right, you will reach a separate viewing area above the caravan site, where you will also find an overview map of the entire park. Later, use the same path again as an exit and continue the circular route again at stele no. 8.  At pillar No. 10 "Deutschlandschacht" you have the option of shortening the tour and bypassing the path through the forest and the somewhat more difficult but very attractive slag heap crossing and tower ascent (stairs). To do this, follow the Deutschlandschachtstraße through former shaft terrain and after a short time rejoin the circular route. This is marked as a "short route" and then leads directly to stele no. 13 "Christuskirche". You can also continue the longer route through the forest and decide not to cross the slag heap until you reach marker no. 12 "Halde" and choose a "short route" along Friedhofstraße directly to marker no. 13 "Christuskirche". Remember, however, that the ascent of the slag heap is rewarded with a panoramic view from the "Glückauf Tower", you will pass through a wide variety of vegetation and be surprised, for example, by cacti and a "wonder horn"! At marker no. 16 "Rittergut" you can shorten the tour again by following the "Innere Neuwieser Straße" further out of town ("short way"). However, stele no. 17 is particularly attractive because of the surrounding half-timbered structure. Further on our tour, you can see the more than 17-metre-high steel artwork "Zeitstrudel" from a distance. This impressively symbolises the subsidence of the ground as a result of coal mining. Continuing to follow the trail markings, we approach our starting point again. A visit to the mining museum will not be possible again until the reconstruction measures have been completed (2023).
