On the trail of lime mining - City of Lengefeld (Good luck! Explore mining history)

Follow the mining educational trail to explore the history of lime mining. Your hike starts at the Kalkwerk Museum, past the White Oven and the Earth Kilns. You can plan a detour to the Neunzehnhain II Dam (dam crest accessible). Then continue to the Neunzehnhain I Dam. Follow the markers and end your hike with a guided tour at the Kalkwerk Museum. Here, the disassembly of limestone can be traced back to the 16th century. In June/July, up to 6,000 wild orchids, also called spotted orchids, grow on the quarry floor. These are only viewable as part of a guided tour.
