Pyramid magic around the Greifensteine and in the Zwönitztal

The route is described coming from Chemnitz/Burkhardtsdorf.

Coming from Chemnitz along the B180, you will see in Burkhardtsdorf on the left at the community administration (Am Markt 8, 09235 Burkhardtsdorf) the first pyramid on the route.

From Burkhardtsdorf, drive south on the main road B180 about 6.5 km through the district of Meinersdorf to Thalheim. There, at the town hall (Hauptstraße 5, 09380 Thalheim), you will find the second pyramid.

Following the main street through Thalheim, after leaving Thalheim, keep left towards Dorfchemnitz. Then proceed towards Zwönitz. Stay on Niederzwönitzer Straße to the city center of Zwönitz, where you reach a traffic light intersection. Turn left there and drive along Lange Gasse. You come out at the market, where to the right is the Zwönitz pyramid (Markt 1, 08297 Zwönitz).

You can turn left at the market onto Rathausstraße. This leads you to the Villa Austel (Rathausstraße 14, 08297 Zwönitz), which houses the Bruno Gebhardt rarity collection. Parking is available in a lot about 50m above the villa or directly at the building.

After visiting the exhibition, drive along Rathausstraße one-way and then return to Niederzwönitzer Straße. Take the same route back to Zwönitz market, but at the market continue straight on Annaberger Straße out of Zwönitz and turn right onto S258 towards Geyer. After about 3 km, turn left onto S260/Geyersche Straße. After about 6.6 km, you reach Geyer at August-Bebel-Straße, where you turn left. Immediately take the next intersection to the right onto Annenstraße, then the next right, then left onto Bahnhofstraße. The fourth pyramid is located on the left (Bahnhofstraße 13, 09468 Geyer).

To continue to Thum, return on August-Bebel-Straße (via Str. der Freundschaft and Kurze Straße), turn right there and follow it out of Geyer towards Thum (Thumer Straße/Geyersche Straße). After about 4.9 km, turn right onto Str. der Freundschaft in Thum. Then drive about 1.8 km and turn left onto Chemnitzer Straße. After a direct right turn onto Poststraße, turn left onto Rathausplatz. There you will find the Thum pyramid (Rathausplatz 1, 09419 Thum).

From Rathausplatz, turn back onto Neumarkt after about 140 meters. At the next intersection, turn left onto Chemnitzer Str./B95 towards Ehrenfriedersdorf. Follow it for 3.6 km and arrive at the market in Ehrenfriedersdorf, where the sixth pyramid of the route awaits you (Markt, Ehrenfriedersdorf).

From Scharfenstein Castle, return along Bahnhofstraße in the direction from which you came. Follow S228 along the Zschopau river, past Grießbach into the Amtsberg district Wilischthal, where you turn left onto S231. Then turn right onto Weißbacher Straße and follow it for about 3.8 km. On the left, you will see your next stop: Mini-Weißbach, where the Weißbach pyramid and nativity scene trail starts (Mini-Weißbach, 09439 Amtsberg).

Continue to B180, where you turn right towards Dittersdorf. At the roundabout take the 3rd exit towards Dittersdorf and come to another very special pyramid, where the figures rotate in opposite directions. A little tip along the way: shortly after the roundabout, a small detour on the right to Dittersdorfer Höhe is worth it. From here you have a wonderful view of the Ore Mountain ridge.

Gelenau is the next destination, which you reach by following Dittersdorfer Straße a few meters further to B180, turning left, and returning to Weißbach. At the town entrance, turn right onto Gelenauer Straße. Follow it for about 3.3 km, then turn right onto Straße der Einheit. Follow it for about 1.1 km and turn right onto Ernst-Grohmann-Straße. There you reach the town hall square directly, where the Gelenau pyramid rotates.

From the town hall square, you reach Depot Pohl-Ströher in 5 minutes by returning to Straße der Einheit, turning right, and after 3 km turning right through Gelenau onto Emil-Werner-Weg. At Depot Pohl-Ströher, you will find one of the largest outdoor Schwibbögen in the world.

Now make your way to Auerbach. For this, return to Straße der Einheit and follow it uphill out of Gelenau. At the next big intersection, go diagonally straight across over B95 and follow Auerbacher/Gelenauer Straße past Schwarzer Teich. The next turn is right into the municipality of Auerbach. After 1 km is the municipal administration Auerbach, in front of whose building the eleventh pyramid of your round trip can be seen. Directly opposite is the well-known Auerbacher "Riesenfensterbrettl".

From Auerbach continue to Gornsdorf by following the priority road for about 5 minutes (approx. 3.7 km). There you will find at the municipal administration of Gornsdorf the last pyramid on the tour.

From Gornsdorf, continue along the main road and turn right in Meinersdorf to return to Burkhardtsdorf, the starting point of the round trip.
