Family railway hiking trail Kurort Kipsdorf – Schmiedeberg

After a cozy steam train ride with the Weißeritztalbahn, the hiking trail back to Schmiedeberg offers a good opportunity to get active yourself. From Kurort Kipsdorf station, follow the footpath along the B170 towards Schmiedeberg. On the way, you pass the Catholic chapel “Maria im Gebirge”. After about 600 m, cross the Rote Weißeritz on the left and thus reach the entrance to the hiking trail, which is signposted here as the "bike and hiking trail to Schmiedeberg." Follow the well-maintained enchanting forest path for about 3 km to Schmiedeberg. On the way, you meet the tracks of the Weißeritztalbahn again and walk above the Schmiedeberg-Buschmühle stop. Shortly afterwards, the hiking trail bends almost at a right angle to the left. Here you continue straight ahead, following the signs for “Schmiedeberg center,” and descend on a narrower path to the street “An der Anewand.” Walk left here and immediately right again in the direction of Schmiedeberg center. Enjoy the view of beautiful and lovingly designed gardens located along the 1.2 km section. The path through the garden settlement ends in Schenkgasse, which you follow downhill to the right. Now you can already see the railway bridge of the Weißeritztalbahn that spans the road. Schenkgasse leads you directly into Schmiedeberg town center. To reach Schmiedeberg station, turn right at the fire station building into the city park, cross it, and then turn right onto the street “Zum Bahnhof,” which takes you directly to the train station.
