Difficult road cycling route through the Thuringian and Saxon Vogtland. Very good fitness required.

On the way through Vogtland, you pass the towns of Plauen, Syrau, Pausa, Zeulenroda, Auma, Gera, Töpeln, Bad Köstritz, Pölzig, Großenstein, Ronneburg, Linda b. Weida, Wünschendorf an der Elster, Weida, Berga, Neumühle/Elster, Greiz, Reichenbach, Lengenfeld, Treuen, Trieb, Mechelgrün, Theuma.

Normally, this route is designed as an uphill and downhill ride starting from Plauen. However, it can also be ridden from all other towns.

Directions

Plauen via secondary roads to Syrau. Continue on the B282 to the Oberpirk junction, then to Pausa, further on to Zeulenroda. Via the L1078 to Auma, then on the L3002 to Mittelpöllnitz. Via the B2 to Gera to the Saara junction, then immediately take the L2334 towards Töpeln. Continue on the L1070 to Thieschütz and further on the L2323 to Bad Köstritz. Here on the L3007 to Langenberg and from there via secondary roads to Pölzig on the L1081. Continue to Großenstein and Ronneburg and via the L1082 junction to Linda b. Weida, further to Pohlen to the junction via secondary roads to Wünschendorf an der Elster on the L2330 and the B92 to Weida until the B175 junction to Berga. Take the junction at the town entrance to Waltersdorf towards Neumühle/Elster. On the L2344 to Greiz. Continue on the B94 to the B173 towards Reichenbach. There briefly switch back to the B94 and via secondary roads to the motorway. Continue here on the B94 to Lengenfeld. Take the junction on the S293 to Treuen. Via Buch bypass the heavily trafficked climb at Treuen and take the secondary roads from Treuen to Trieb. Here on the B169 to Mechelgrün. Take the junction to Theuma, the S312 via secondary roads back to Plauen to the train station.

On the route, the athlete has to overcome 2197 meters of ascent and 2208 meters of descent.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

If the road cyclist’s conditioning is about 150 kilometers, the route can be shortened from Großebersdorf to Weida.
