There are many hiking trails in and around Zschopau, but no tour is as varied over a short distance as this one.
From Wildeck Castle, cross the Zschopau bridge and walk up the old Marienberger Straße to Zschopenberg elementary school. Take the Wurzelweg to the K8174 and follow it into town to the Steghaus. A narrow path to the right past the house takes you directly to the Zschopau. Here you can enjoy a picnic at the site of the Holy Trinity mine.
Continue upstream until you reach the ski jumps of the "Am Zschopenberg" winter sports center. From there, it is just a short walk along Obere Mühlstraße and over the Zschopau bridge back to the castle.
After the tour, you will still have enough energy left to climb the 144 steps of the "Dicker Heinrich" keep in the castle courtyard of Wildeck Castle. (Museums and tower open according to opening times).

Directions
The tour begins and ends at Renaissance Schloss Wildeck in Zschopau. You start in a southerly direction. First, you go downhill over the Zschopau bridge, past the "Zschaap mei Geeß" monument and under the railroad bridge. Follow the steps to Anton-Günther-Platz and Alte Marienberger Straße to the "Wurzelweg" junction at the Zschopenberg elementary school. At the display board, you will gain an overview of the witnesses of the old mining industry in the southern part of Zschopau. Follow the path into the forest. On the left, the view of the Zschopau valley is worthwhile. The "Wurzelweg" signs begin at the edge of the forest. The signs can be found again and again as stickers. At its end, you come to the district road K8174. Use the sidewalk on the opposite side and walk into town. Shortly before the bridge over the Zschopau, you will see the Steghaus on the left. Walk towards it and take the small path right next to the house to get to the Zschopau. Along the Zschopau you will soon come to the "Heilige Dreifaltigkeit Fundgrube". With approx. 250m of secured guide paths, it is one of the smaller visitor mines. Guided tours are possible by appointment (check the notice board), but the forecourt is also a great place to linger.
Continue along the Zschopau past the boathouse of the canoe club. Finally, you reach the ski jumps of the winter sports center "Am Zschopenberg". Keep left at the parking lot and then turn right onto Schlachthofstraße under the railroad bridge. You will come to Obere Mühlstraße immediately after the railroad bridge. Follow this road, turning left. At the end of the street, you will reach the "Zschaap mei Geeß" monument and the Zschopau bridge. Go straight on to Zschopau railroad station, then right over the bridge back to Wildeck Castle.

Take the B174 to Zschopau Süd. Follow the detour towards the center.
ParkingParking is permitted directly at the castle for two hours with a parking meter. The parking lot at Zschopau train station is free of charge.

The station is right next to the tour. It is a few meters into town until you reach the railroad bridge. From here you are on the route. Go right under the railroad bridge and follow the stairs on the opposite side of the street up to Anton-Günther-Platz.

There's nothing better than a little picnic and cooling your feet in the river. The spot at the visitor mine is particularly suitable for this.
