Directions

From the train station, follow the Elbe downhill to the Saxon Central Mountains route, which takes you uphill towards Schöna, past the towering Kaiserkrone (351 m), Zirkelstein (384 m) and Großer Zschirnstein (561 m) - the highest mountain in Saxon Switzerland. The rocky landscape of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains in the background is simply impressive! Via Kleingießhübel and Cunnersdorf, past the Waldbad, we reach Rosenthal after a wooded ride. Bizarre sandstone rock towers such as "Sachsenstein", "Herkulessäulen" or "Großvaterstuhl" in the Bielagrund offer fantastic panoramic views and invite you to linger. Continuing along clear streams, we come to Hellendorf in the Bahratal valley, one of the districts of the spa town of Bad Gottleuba-Berggießhübel. Oelsen, the Gottleuba dam and Breitenau are further stops before crossing under the A17.

Having now arrived in the Osterzgebirge mountains, we continue uphill to Fürstenwalde, leave the Müglitz valley for Fürstenau and soon see the Kohlhaukuppe (786 m). A detour there is very strenuous, but the fantastic view from the tower makes up for it. Continuing along the I-6, a beautiful cycle path leads to the stage destination at the foot of the Geisingberg (824 m) with its viewing tower. In Geising with its historic town center, the SM route turns left, but the stage ends straight ahead at the train station.
