The first section of the path leads from Mügeln through a fruit-growing area to Sornzig. The orchards of apples, cherries, plums, and pears are especially worth seeing in spring when they turn into a sea of blossoms. As part of the fruit land, the region belongs to the oldest fruit-growing areas in Germany. The reason for this is the geological and climatic conditions in the Porphyrland Geopark. We therefore definitely recommend a stop at the farm shop of "Sachsenobst" in Sornzig to taste the fruits of the fruit land. In the former Cistercian monastery Marienthal, a final look can be taken into the history of fruit growing up to the middle of the 12th century.
The second section of the theme path deals with "white gold" – the porcelain clay kaolin – which has been mined in the region around Mügeln since 1770.
A geological highlight of great importance is the former millstone quarry near Sornzig. Here, the weathering of the porphyry rock, which is common in the region, into kaolin has clearly advanced.
The further path leads via Kemmlitz through an impressive post-mining landscape with a viewpoint to the active kaolin open-pit mine Schleben / Crellenhain and the open-cast mine residual hole Frieden.
On the last kilometer to the narrow-gauge train station and the "Kaolin adventure world" in the Geoportal Mügeln, the 1,000-year-old bishop town Mügeln with its Ruhetal Castle, market, old market, and numerous narrow artisan streets can finally be visited.

Note for cyclists: The route is not continuously passable and is designed as a hiking route!
Starting point is Mügeln train station. Arriving by train or coming from the parking lot at the station, go left towards the town center and turn into Molkereistraße after the railway crossing. Continue straight on Döbelner Straße onto Gaudlitzer Weg. Between orchards and past the hop garden, the path leads about 2.7 kilometers to Oberhof (Kranichau). This bike or hiking route is especially beautiful in spring when the fruit trees in the Sornzig orchards are in bloom.On the last third of Gaudlitzer Weg, you have a wonderful view of Mügeln and its surroundings. Upon reaching Oberhof, continue straight over the road leading to Döbeln. Passing Kranichau on the left, turn left again at the next fork in the road. Cyclists should note that the street up to the Lichteneichen junction (about 600 meters length) is a one-way street that may only be traveled from the opposite direction!
Continue straight at the Lichteneichen junction. This way leads via Klosterstraße to Sornzig. On the left of Klosterstraße is the "Marienthal" monastery, founded in 1241 by Siegfried III of Mügeln for the small village on the Hasenbach. We take a short rest in the monastery park. Continuing straight along Klosterstraße and crossing the intersection, after about 250 meters, turn right into Kreuzegrund towards Neusornzig. Follow the road until reaching Sornzig primary school at S31 and keep right towards Mügeln. After about 300m, turn left onto the street "Zum Silbersee." Following the meadow path, reach Kemmlitz train station via the nature discovery trail. Always keeping right, turn left before the town exit sign onto a meadow path leading to Poppitz. The section from S31 to the entrance of Poppitz (excluding Kemmlitz village) can only be ridden by experienced cyclists. Keep right until the next crossing. Continue on the country road to the Nebitzschen railway crossing. To avoid staying on the heavily trafficked road, turn left into Seelitzer Straße into the village and keep right towards Altmügeln church, past Mügeln primary school to Wermsdorfer Straße. Here, after the stop sign, turn right, cross the Döllnitz, and after about 200m at the railway crossing turn left towards the Anger playground. Passing the bakehouse, reach the market and continue towards Mügeln train station.Tour information

Public transportationThe Döllnitzbahn is integrated into the Central German Transport Association. MDV tickets are accepted on the narrow-gauge railway. The Döllnitzbahn route is designed for arrival and departure with the narrow-gauge railway (Döllnitzbahn).
