Stoneman Miriquidi Road stage 01 Oberwiesenthal Bärenstein

With the Great Mountain Scream, the rich silver discoveries at the end of the 15th century, the Ore Mountains suddenly became famous. Mining towns such as Annaberg, Buchholz and Marienberg were founded. Plenty of silver was also mined in the Oberwiesenthal mining area. Today, Oberwiesenthal is primarily known for its winter sports. The Fichtelberg ski jumps of the Olympic training center tower above the rooftops. The cult pub Prijut 12 is the scene meeting place for stoners on fat and skinny tires. On the road bike, you pass the valley station of the Fichtelberg cable car, the oldest cable car in Germany, in the direction of Loučná. The route follows the meandering Pöhlbach stream on well-paved side roads. You can always catch a glimpse of the steam-powered narrow-gauge railroad (since 1897). A steep ramp takes you up to the next checkpoint on the summit of the Bärenstein.
