The Terrainkurweg trail around the Scharspitze is a more challenging hike that winds through the peaceful forests of the Ore Mountains. The Scharpsitze is one of the 14 “eight-thousanders” in the Eastern Ore Mountains—various points, all over 800 dm high, that together form a large circular route.
The original route is not stroller-friendly and is also not suitable for wheelchair users. However, there is an alternative route via the K-Flügel.

From the Kurpark Running Club, head toward the Altenberg Adventure Mountain. Follow Querweg and, at the end of the path, turn right onto Sonnenhofweg; then keep left once and continue toward Bergstraße. You’ll reach the B170 via Bergstraße. Cross the road and continue running downhill (there’s a grocery store on your left), following the signs for the Mining Nature Trail. In the valley, you’ll reach the Schwarzwasser area. There, keep to the left, cross the small bridge, and follow the Aschergraben. The trail leads you through shady deciduous forests, past the Goethe Monument and the old bobsled track. After the climb, you’ll reach the Scharspitze mountain hut. Take a short break, enjoy the silence, and then, refreshed, continue straight ahead. After about 200 m of a gentle descent, keep to the right. At the next intersection, turn right onto Langegasseweg, which will lead you back to Altenberg and the starting point.

Additional information
- The classic terrain therapy is a special form of exercise therapy practiced at a health resort. It is characterized by exercise intensity tailored to the individual’s fitness level, full-body training, time spent outdoors, and experiencing the natural landscape. It is performed through normal or brisk walking. Terrain therapy helps normalize the body’s autonomic functions: the cardiovascular system works more efficiently, respiratory function is stimulated, muscles and joints are strengthened, and overall metabolism is positively influenced.
