Hike around the Galgenteiche ponds and the Altenberg drinking water reservoir.

The Terrainkurweg trail around the Galgenteiche ponds in Altenberg is a short, varied hike through the charming natural landscape of the Eastern Ore Mountains. The trail first leads along the Kleiner Galgenteich, a popular natural pond, and continues on to the Großer Galgenteich, which serves as a forebay and part of the Altenberg drinking water reservoir. Surrounded by dense forests, the route offers fresh, clear air and soothing tranquility. Gentle ascents and descents make the loop trail particularly pleasant.

This tour is stroller-friendly and accessible to wheelchair users.

Alternatively, the tour can also start from the P4 parking lot at the campground.

Additional information

The classic terrain therapy is a special form of exercise therapy at a health resort. It is characterized by exercise intensity tailored to the individual’s fitness level, full-body training, time spent outdoors, and experiencing the natural landscape. It is performed while walking at a normal or brisk pace. Terrain therapy helps normalize the body’s autonomic functions: the cardiovascular system works more efficiently, respiratory function is stimulated, muscles and joints are strengthened, and overall metabolism is positively influenced.
