Beer village - Poets' path and one last look at the stars!

Today we leave the mountainous landscape of the Vogtland. Once again, a high mountain, the Kuhberg near Schönheide, must be climbed. Afterwards follows a long descent to Rodewisch, where after 10 days you meet the Göltzsch again – the goal is within reach!

Starting in Vogelsgrün, today also begins with an ascent! After the first kilometers, you reach the 795 m high Kuhberg near Schönheide. A view from the 20 m high Prinz-Georg Tower should not be missed!

Then, you stroll comfortably into the „beer village“ Wernesgrün. Here is the traditional Wernesgrüner Brewery, a monument of industrial culture in Vogtland. Beer has been brewed here since 1436! With a freshly tapped beer, you can see the historic brewery estate and participate in an interesting tour of the brewery.

Leaving the village behind, you reach the valley of the Holzbach on a forest path and pass the Hahnenhäuser. According to tradition, the Swedes raided this area during the Thirty Years' War. To protect themselves from the Swedish soldiers, villagers fled to the somewhat remote building, taking their animals with them. A magnificent colorful rooster, however, betrayed the hiding place with its loud crowing. Thus, the house was lost and destroyed. The name of the houses located there comes from this story – the Hahnenhäuser!

Now begins a very beautiful part of the path to Rodewisch. Especially the Poets' Path invites to pause again and again. 14 old and new poems can be read on rocks and tablets along the idyllic hiking trail along the Pöltzsch. Upon reaching Rodewisch, you can again reach for the stars here. The well-known planetarium and the school observatory are interesting detours. Also, the idyllic castle island with the small Göltzsch castle lies directly on the path before you reach the small town of Lengenfeld.

Directions

From the guesthouse „Zum Windrad“ in Vogelsgrün, the route goes flat through the forest towards Schnarrtanne. At the beginning of the right curve around the Laubberg, the path continues to the Carolagrüner reservoir. Watch the signs, as the marking splits into two paths, the right one leading back to Morgenröthe-Rautenkranz! Along the small reservoir through the forest, follow the path further, past the hotel „Forstmeister“, to the first houses of Schönheide. Not entering the village yet, but with one last effort, climb the nearly 100 meters in elevation up to Kuhberg. From here, the Vogtland Panorama Path® leads over a straight clearing and finally through meadows into the beer village Wernesgrün. Already during the descent, you can see the huge beer tanks of the brewery.

Hardly arrived in the village, turn left before the main street to the Hahnenhäuser. Shortly thereafter, you reach the small town of Rodewisch and meet again the little river Göltzsch, where it all began on its banks. Passing the castle island, then crossing the Göltzsch and continuing to the Schanzenbaude. Afterwards to the so-called „Königsstraße“, the connecting road between Rodewisch and Treuen, and on the „Schießhaus-Weg“ to the edge of the forest. Leaving the Vogtland Panorama Path® towards the already visible Lengenfeld, continue straight into the town center, where the next stop awaits.
