High mountains and Vogtland farming life

First, you leave Markneukirchen and reach, gently uphill, first Friebus and then Erlbach. Now it goes high up to the Erlbach heights and once around the scenic holiday resort. Wide views delight the eye.

If you reach the district of Eubabrunn, you should visit the open-air museum. In the Vogtland Open-Air Museum Eubabrunn, characteristic buildings in the folk architecture of Vogtland have been authentically reconstructed as a village complex. Agriculture, livestock and gardens illustrate the former work and lifestyle of the villagers. The site has even served as a film set.

On an area of 4 hectares, there are three originally furnished farms with corresponding outbuildings and home gardens. The buildings were relocated from various places in Vogtland. None of them originally stood here.

In a total of 18 buildings from around 1720 to 1830, permanent and special exhibitions on various topics are shown. Fields have been laid out on an open area and historic seeds are cultivated. Animals can be found in the pastures and in the stables.

Bohemian exiles also settled in Erlbach, bringing the musical instrument making to the place. Workshops still exist today, especially for string and plucked instrument makers.

A special gem is the Upper Vogtland Village Museum at Lindenplatz in Erlbach, a double-room log house from 1726. The exhibition documents the history of the village and presents the musical instrument trade.

Directions

From Breitenfeld, you descend a few meters down the road, then turn left at the edge of the forest to the Breitenfeld forest swimming pool. Those who stayed overnight in Markneukirchen simply continue hiking in the side valley at the junction of the road to Breitenfeld and soon reach the Breitenfeld forest swimming pool there.

Back on the Vogtland Panorama Route®, it goes uphill again. The steep section really puts strain on your legs, but on the following flat stretch past the Hirschmühlenteich pond, you can loosen your muscles again. You continue hiking through a lovely valley meadow and reach the scattered settlement of Friebus. There you cross the road to Klingenthal (caution at the B 283) to walk a few meters on the opposite side towards the forest and then through the holiday home settlement "Zum Wacholderbusch." We continue over the former execution place Spornreuth into the nearby town center of Erlbach.

Opposite the former Tauscher inn stands the signpost with information for the next kilometers. It goes uphill to Schloßpenzel until north of Wernitzgrün, where you leave the EB again. With a beautiful view of Wernitzgrün, you walk to the forest edge and immerse yourself in the dark coniferous forests of the border ridge. Like the border itself, the Vogtland Panorama Route® describes a wide arc around Eubabrunn, then turns sharply right into the Wirtsgrund at a bungalow settlement. About 200 m before the Juliusstein, the VPW crosses the Wirtsgrundbach stream by a ford. The impressive old border stone (Juliusstein) is worth the "detour." From it, you circle the 755 m high Hinterer Kegelberg halfway up, cross the ski slope, and gradually approach the Erlbach district Landesgemeinde.

Passing the Vorderer Floßteich pond, we hike the last kilometers surrounded by high mountains into the Landesgemeinde valley.
