From Oelsnitz, you can hike on the trail of the freshwater pearl mussel on this stage.
At Adorf, the descent into the idyllic Tetterwein valley follows. In the eponymous stream, as well as in the other tributaries of the White Elster, freshwater pearl mussels were artificially introduced – the stream was considered a “good pearl water.” In 1937, the population in the stream was estimated at up to 6,000 mussels. And the freshwater pearl mussel plays a major role in this area. Therefore, a detour to the Adorf museum is recommended. Here you can learn interesting facts about the freshwater pearl mussel in a lovingly designed exhibition, which was once found abundantly in the White Elster in Vogtland. With the three exhibition sections: lifestyle of the freshwater pearl mussel, pearlfishing in Vogtland, and the mother-of-pearl goods manufacturing based in Adorf, the largest collection on the topic in Germany has now been created. And additionally, in Adorf, you can get to know the entire Vogtland and its sights on foot. In the miniature display “Small Vogtland,” beautifully located in a park, detailed miniature models of many buildings and excursion destinations of Vogtland in scales from 1:25 to 1:100 can be admired.
The destination, Bad Elster, is soon reached. And here, the hiker awaits a true “Source Waltz.” Alone in Bad Elster, 10 healing springs gush, which can also be sampled in the spring houses.
You can spend a very relaxing time in the saline thermal bath. The saline thermal bath is fed by a saline spring discovered in 2009 in the Elster valley. It is the legacy of a closed ancient sea that lay hidden and protected deep in the earth's cradle for millions of years. What was discovered at a depth of 1,200 m turns out to be a true treasure from the Elster valley – the source of the Bad Elster thermal saline.

Directions
The path leads out of the town of Oelsnitz until the pedestrian tunnel is reached. From here, you pass the settlement by the lime tree to Oberhermsgrün, Ebersbach towards the Hundsgrün viewpoint.
Through dense forest, you descend to the Lochhäuser. The Lochbach is crossed before the path goes left and then immediately to the right again, consistently uphill. Keeping left at the height, you follow a wide forest road for 200 m before turning right again along the forest edge, walking to the road from Bergen to Freiberg. A beautiful panoramic view opens up to the Hoher Stein in the Czech Republic and to the Wirtsberg.
The road leads briefly to the right, then left at Waldeck and downhill into the idyllic Tetterweinbach valley. After arriving at the bottom, go a little upstream and then one last steep climb. The still recognizable route of the former railway line Adorf – Hranice (Rossbach) is crossed until finally the village road between Adorf and Gettengrün is reached. A short way on the road to the right, after about 300 m turn left again into the forest and follow the signs to the “Old Castle,” an early Germanic ring fort. As all day long, the Vogtland Trail also accompanies the hikers on the Panorama Trail the last stretch past the Römerhütte to Bad Elster. Through Albert Park, past the Royal Spa House, the path crosses Badstraße to the bathing area. Promenading along the White Elster, you reach the destination at the Gondola Pond.

Regular train connections from Oelsnitz and Bad Elster station/Mühlhausen district. Bus connection from the station to the town of Bad Elster or a nice approx. 2 km long walk along the moor ponds of Bad Elster.

Tip: Plan enough time for a detour to the town of Adorf.
Safety guidelines
Requirement: Initially valley hike to Hundsgrün, then ups and downs through the foothills of the Elster Mountains to Bad Elster.
