This route offers beautiful views of Saxony's largest drinking water reservoir as well as a detour to the walkable dam crest.

From the parking lot, first pass the motorhome parking area towards the forest. After about 800 m, cross the B 283 (caution!). The following circular trail is called Gerstenberg circular trail and is signposted. About halfway, you reach a rustic shelter with a very nice view of the dam from this spot. On the return route, cross the B 283 again and go 800 m uphill back to the parking lot.

Along the circular trail, depending on weather and snow conditions, there is the possibility to explore the mining educational trail (sturdy hiking boots are essential). Also, you can hike directly down from the Gerstenberg circular trail to the dam of the Eibenstock reservoir (400 m).

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

TIP 1: At the beginning or end of the route, the Badegärten Eibenstock with their unique sauna landscape invite you to enjoy a sweat session. At least 4-5 hours should be planned for this. An online booking in advance (especially on weekends) is highly recommended!

TIP 2: The hike is also part of the Digital Hiking Badge "For Winter Hikers." Download the SummitLynx app, activate your phone's GPS, and check in at noteworthy locations. This will take you on a total of 9 routes to the world of viewing towers, local sights, and fascinating museums.

The special feature of our Digital Hiking Badges is the possibility that you can create a personal tour book with pictures, texts, and places in a modern way.
