The path is 10 km in total and goes via the small village Kottenheide, further to the forebay of the Muldenberg reservoir, and back to Schöneck.

Directions
- Cross the street at the roundabout and follow the path towards the snack bar "Meilerhütte." At the junction keep right and after about 200m turn left. A short distance later, continue to the right and cross the road. On the opposite side begins the Kirchsteig to Kottenheide, marked as a winter hiking trail. Passing through the village, leave Kottenheide heading towards Muldenberg and walk via the forebay back to Schöneck.

Take line RB1 of the Vogtlandbahn to the stop IFA Ferienpark. Here there is a hiking and trail house with changing rooms, sprinters, showers and toilets. Keep left and cross the main road at the bus stop. Opposite begins the winter hiking trail.
You can use the bus stop at IFA Ferienpark with bus line "TaktBUS22" from Muldenberg, "+Bus90" from Plauen and Oelsnitz, or "TaktBUS93" from Bad Elster and start the hike directly.
