However, and unknown to most, they also produce exquisit and award-winning Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir). Wine Festivals and Events

The Autumn and Wine Festival in Radebeul is a standout event in this renowned wine region. Paired with a theatre festival, it has earned recognition as one of the best wine festivals in Germany. Entry is free on Friday, while Saturday and Sunday require a ticket, offering a more relaxed experience. It’s the perfect opportunity to sample the finest local wines!
The wine festival in Meissen coincides with the Radebeul festival on the last weekend in September, but it boasts a distinctly different atmosphere, featuring a lively funfair. With numerous bands and musicians performing and open courtyards inviting you to explore, you’ll discover a wealth of local wineries showcasing their exquisite wines throughout the charming streets of Meissen.
Leipzig hosts its Wine Festival in July. With numerous wine stalls scattered throughout the central market area, you’re sure to find your perfect pour. If you happen to be in Leipzig join the festivities and explore a delightful selection of wines!
Chemnitz will host its Wine Festival from July 23 to August 15, 2027. A striking 20-meter-high windmill in the marketplace serves as the festival’s iconic landmark. In addition to a fantastic selection of wines, the event features lively music and family-friendly entertainment, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy!
The Open Days of Saxon Wineries on the last weekend of August is another exciting highlight of the wine region. Wineries will open their doors and cellars to the public, offering entertainment for the whole family. A special bus network will connect the wineries, allowing you to leave your car at home and fully focus on the wine tasting experience!

Saxon wines are available for tasting year-round at various local restaurants, bars, and shops, each featuring a selection of regional wines. For a deeper dive into Saxon wine culture, we recommend visiting Wackerbarth Castle in Radebeul, the second oldest sparkling wine producer in Germany, where you can gain valuable insight into “Sekt” production. Alternatively, check out Hoflössnitz, also in Radebeul, which houses the local wine museum. Both locations offer excellent tastings in beautiful surroundings and welcome visitors throughout the year.
